The design reconfigured the site's servicing, uses and internal accommodation to release valuable space before proposing a comprehensive site remodel, adding a small studio flat and two new maisonettes. The resulting design enabled retention of a local butchers shop and increased development value.
The layout was conceived as a series of plots enabling each dwelling to have their own access from the street. This allowed for improved daylight penetration, created a sympathetic building scale, while also forming important threshold spaces onto the street.
Functional modern interior designs , developed by studio24, were an integral part of the architecture resulting in compact well lit habitable spaces ideal for urban living.
This award winning project in the heart of a Cambridge Conservation Area epitomises shop premises formed from Victorian terrace house conversions up and down the country and successfully overcomes the difficulties commonly presented by tight urban sites and their need to be updated.
The project took an approach to the built layout that reconfigured its accommodation to bring about the comprehensive site remodel. By adding a small studio flat and two new maisonettes the design enabled the retention and modernisation of a local butchers shop and first floor living.
